That was also a problem since HP was nice enough to use some super tiny Torx security bits. The easiest solution for this was to pop open the case and solder some wires to the power connectors. Just picture a person driving with a wired network and a printer in their car. The search did lead to this listing which is hilarious. Sourcing the power supply on Ebay proved more time consuming and expensive than desired. The power connector was a somewhat weird diameter. The Jetdirects did not come with a power supply. The 300x, at least the one tested, does not appear to be as stable as the 170x. If you are looking to buy hardware, shoot for the 170x. This was later replaced with the 170x which is only 10 base t. The 300x has 10/100 base t which is why it was initially chosen. This has had the effect of clearing all IP settings so now it has the following settings when I print the test page: I then tried performing a cold reset to factory settings by pressing the test button while plugging in the power cord and waiting for 5 seconds. Initially, the test page from the print server showed an IP address of 192.0.0.192, but I wasn't able to connect to the web configuration page using this address. Turned off the print server and it hasn't worked since! I then decided it would be cool if my router controlled and assigned the IP address of the print server (as it does for all my other kit) so I changed the configuration of the print server to DHCP. This was reasonable, to ensure the same IP address wasn't assign to another network device. Unfortunately I didn't and I decided to add the new IP address to my routers address reservation table as I do for all devices I connect to my network. Job done and that's where I SHOULD have stopped! The print server could then be pinged from both desktop and laptop. I used the web based configuration page of the print server to change the IP address to 192.168.0.16 and the Default Gateway to 192.168.0.1 (my router), with the assignment mode left as manual. The server was using what I think was a default IP address (169.254.72.163), which isn't in the 192.168.0.? range that I use on my home network, but having said that it has worked with both computers in the past. I couldn't ping the IP address from the laptop, but I could ping it from a desktop PC. My laptop started having problems printing to my HP G85 printer which uses a HP Jetdirect 170x Print Server to connect it to the network.
